# How to Delete iCloud Account (Sign Out vs Permanently Delete)

Most people searching for this actually want to sign out, not permanently delete their Apple ID. Here is the difference and how to do both.

## The Direct Answer

To **sign out of iCloud** on your iPhone: go to **Settings > [your name] > Sign Out**. This removes iCloud data from the device but your account and all data still exist in the cloud. To **permanently delete your Apple ID** (irreversible): visit **privacy.apple.com**, sign in, and request account deletion. Most people only need to sign out — permanent deletion erases all purchases, subscriptions, photos, and data forever.

## Option 1: Sign Out of iCloud (Reversible)

This is what most people need. Signing out disconnects your device from iCloud without deleting anything.

1. Open **Settings**

2. Tap **[your name]** at the top

3. Scroll down and tap **Sign Out**

4. Enter your Apple ID password when prompted

5. Choose whether to keep a copy of calendars, contacts, etc. on the device

6. Tap **Sign Out** to confirm

After signing out, your iCloud data (photos, backups, documents) remains safely in Apple's cloud. You can sign back in anytime to restore access.

## Option 2: Permanently Delete Apple ID (Irreversible)
