Question

How to Access iPhone Files on PC (Windows)

Need to get photos, documents, or other files from your iPhone to your Windows computer? Here are all the ways to do it.

The Direct Answer

To access iPhone files on a Windows PC, connect your iPhone via USB cable and use File Explorer to browse photos (DCIM folder), the Windows Photos app to import images, or iTunes / Apple Devices app for full file management. For wireless access, use iCloud.com in any browser or install iCloud for Windows to sync files automatically. Third-party tools like iMazing provide the most comprehensive file browsing.

Method 1: File Explorer (Photos Only)

The simplest method for photos and videos — no software installation needed.

  1. Connect your iPhone to your PC with a USB cable (Lightning or USB-C).
  2. Unlock your iPhone and tap Trust when prompted.
  3. Open File Explorer on your PC.
  4. Under This PC, find your iPhone listed as Apple iPhone.
  5. Navigate to Internal Storage > DCIM.
  6. Browse folders and copy photos/videos to your PC.

This method only provides access to the camera roll (DCIM folder). You cannot browse app data, documents, or other files this way.

Method 2: Windows Photos App

Windows Photos provides a more organized import experience for photos and videos.

  1. Connect your iPhone via USB and trust the computer.
  2. Open the Photos app on Windows.
  3. Click Import in the top menu bar.
  4. Select your iPhone from the device list.
  5. Choose which photos to import or select all.
  6. Click Import Selected and choose a destination folder.

Method 3: iTunes or Apple Devices App

For access beyond just photos, you need Apple's desktop software.

  • Windows 10: Download and install iTunes from the Microsoft Store or Apple's website.
  • Windows 11: Use the newer Apple Devices app from the Microsoft Store (replaces iTunes for device management).

Once installed, connect your iPhone and open the app. You can:

  • File Sharing: Access documents stored by apps that support file sharing (Pages, Keynote, GarageBand, etc.). Click your device, then File Sharing.
  • Sync music, movies, and TV shows between your PC and iPhone.
  • Create full device backups to your PC.
Important: When your iPhone asks "Trust This Computer?" always tap Trust. If you accidentally tapped Don't Trust, disconnect the cable, then go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy to reset the trust setting.

Method 4: iCloud.com (Wireless)

Access your iCloud files from any browser without connecting a cable.

  1. Open a web browser on your PC and go to icloud.com.
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Click Photos to view and download your iCloud photo library.
  4. Click iCloud Drive to access documents and files.
  5. Select files and click the download button to save them to your PC.

This requires iCloud Photos or iCloud Drive to be enabled on your iPhone. Only files synced to iCloud are accessible this way.

Method 5: iCloud for Windows

For ongoing automatic sync between your iPhone and PC, install iCloud for Windows from the Microsoft Store. Once set up, it creates an iCloud Photos folder and iCloud Drive folder on your PC that stay in sync automatically. This is the closest experience to having your iPhone files always available on your PC.

Method 6: Third-Party File Managers

For the most comprehensive file access, third-party tools like iMazing, 3uTools, or iExplorer let you browse nearly everything on your iPhone including app data, messages, call logs, and the file system. These tools typically require a one-time purchase but provide far more access than Apple's own tools.

Tip: Before transferring photos to your PC, clean up your camera roll to avoid copying thousands of unwanted photos. Swype Photo Cleaner lets you quickly swipe through your library — left to delete, right to keep — so you only transfer the photos that matter.
