Does Screen Recording Take a Lot of Storage?

Yes — iPhone screen recordings average 50-100 MB per minute depending on screen resolution and content activity. A 10-minute gaming session can produce a 1 GB file. Unlike camera recordings, there is no option to change the resolution or format before recording.

Screen recordings are saved as .mov files at your device's native screen resolution. Here are typical file sizes per minute:

- Delete immediately after use — Screen recordings are typically one-time-use files. Review and delete them right after.
- Trim before saving — Tap the recording in Photos, tap Edit, and trim the beginning and end. This can reduce size by 30-50%.
- Transfer to Mac — Move finished recordings to a Mac or external drive via AirDrop or USB to free iPhone space.
