# How to Share Photos Between iPhones

Five methods to share photos with other iPhone users — from instant AirDrop transfers to ongoing family photo libraries.

## Quick Answer

The fastest method is **AirDrop**: select photos, tap Share, choose AirDrop, and tap the recipient's name. Photos transfer in full resolution in seconds with no internet needed. For ongoing sharing, use **Shared Albums** or **iCloud Shared Photo Library**. For quick casual sharing, send via **iMessage**. Each method has tradeoffs between speed, quality, and convenience.

## Method 1: AirDrop (Best for In-Person)

AirDrop transfers full-resolution photos wirelessly between nearby iPhones. No internet required.

### 1 Enable AirDrop on Both iPhones

Open **Control Center** (swipe down from upper right). Long-press the connectivity panel. Tap **AirDrop** and set to **Contacts Only** or **Everyone for 10 Minutes**. Both iPhones need WiFi and Bluetooth on.

### 2 Select and Share Photos

Open **Photos**, tap **Select**, choose the photos you want to share. Tap the **Share** button. The AirDrop row appears at the top — tap the recipient's name or device icon.

### 3 Accept on the Other iPhone

The recipient sees a preview and taps **Accept**. Photos save to their Photos app in full resolution with all metadata intact.

## Method 2: Shared Albums (Best for Groups)

Shared Albums let you create albums that selected people can view and contribute to. Perfect for events, trips, or family photos.

### 1 Create a Shared Album

Open **Photos > Albums > + (top left) > New Shared Album**. Name it and tap **Next**. Add people by entering their Apple ID email or phone number.

### 2 Add Photos

Open the shared album, tap the **+** button, select photos, and tap **Add**. Everyone with access can see them. Enable **Subscribers Can Post** in album settings to let others add photos too.

## Method 3: iCloud Shared Photo Library (Best for Family)

Available on iOS 16.1+, this creates one shared library for up to 6 people. Photos appear seamlessly alongside personal ones.

### 1 Set Up Shared Library

Go to **Settings > Photos > Shared Library**. Invite up to 5 other people. Choose which existing photos to move into the shared library (by date, by people, or manually).

### 2 Contribute Automatically

In the Camera app, switch between **Personal** and **Shared Library** using the toggle. Photos taken in Shared mode go directly to the shared library for everyone to see.

## Method 4: iMessage (Quick and Easy)

Simply open a Messages conversation, tap the **+** button, select **Photos**, choose your images, and send. Quick and convenient but photos may be compressed for faster delivery.

## Method 5: NameDrop (iOS 17+)

Hold two iPhones near each other (top to top) to exchange contact information and photos. Useful for quickly sharing a few photos with someone you just met.
