# How to Free Up iCloud Storage Quickly

Your iCloud is almost full and you need space now. Here are five steps to free up iCloud storage fast, ordered by biggest impact first.

## Quick Answer

First, check what is using your space: **Settings > [name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage**. Then attack the biggest consumers: **delete old device backups** (often 2-8 GB each), **clean your photo library** (usually the biggest consumer), **remove large iCloud Drive files**, **clear mail attachments**, and **disable iCloud backup for apps** you do not need backed up. Most users can free 5-20 GB in 15 minutes.

### 1 Delete Old Device Backups (Biggest Quick Win)

Go to **Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > Backups**. If you see backups from old iPhones or iPads you no longer own, tap them and **Delete Backup**. Each old backup can free 2-8 GB instantly. This is often the fastest way to reclaim significant iCloud space.

### 2 Clean Your Photo Library

Photos and videos usually consume the most iCloud storage. Use [Swype Photo Cleaner](https://dblabsapps.com/apps/swype-photo-cleaner/) to quickly review and delete unwanted photos — swipe left to delete, right to keep. After deleting, go to **Photos > Albums > Recently Deleted** and tap **Delete All** to free the space immediately (otherwise they stay for 30 days).

### 3 Remove Large Files from iCloud Drive

Open the **Files** app > **Browse** > **iCloud Drive**. Look for large files you no longer need — old downloads, large PDFs, video files. Long-press to delete. Also check the **Downloads** folder where files from Safari accumulate.

### 4 Clear Mail Attachments

If you use iCloud Mail, emails with large attachments consume iCloud storage. Open **Mail**, search for emails with large attachments, and delete them. Empty the **Trash** folder to permanently free the space.

### 5 Manage App Data in iCloud

Go to **Settings > [name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage**. Review which apps store data in iCloud. Disable iCloud for apps that do not need cloud backup, and delete data from apps you no longer use.

## Check Your Results

After cleaning up, go back to **Settings > [name] > iCloud** to see your updated storage usage. The bar chart shows your new breakdown. Changes may take a few minutes to reflect.
