# How to Check iPhone Storage from a PC

Sometimes you want to check iPhone storage from a full-size screen — maybe you are planning a cleanup, buying a new phone, or troubleshooting. Here is how to do it from Windows.

## Quick Answer

Install the **Apple Devices** app from the Microsoft Store (or iTunes on older Windows), connect your iPhone via USB cable, tap **Trust** on your iPhone, then click the device icon in the app. The Summary or device overview screen shows your total storage, free space, and a color-coded bar by content type (Audio, Video, Photos, Apps, Documents, Other). You can also see this info in File Explorer under "This PC".

## What You Need

- A Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC

- An Apple Lightning or USB-C cable (whichever matches your iPhone)

- The **Apple Devices** app (Microsoft Store) on Windows 11, or **iTunes** on Windows 10

- Your iPhone's passcode

## Step-by-Step Instructions

### 1 Install Apple Devices or iTunes

On Windows 11, open the **Microsoft Store** and search for **Apple Devices**. Install it. On Windows 10, search for **iTunes** instead (Apple Devices is Windows 11 only). Either app works for checking storage.

### 2 Connect Your iPhone

Plug your iPhone into the PC using a Lightning or USB-C cable. Make sure the cable supports data transfer — some charging-only cables will not work. An Apple-made cable is safest.

### 3 Trust the Computer

Your iPhone will show a **Trust This Computer?** popup. Tap **Trust** and enter your iPhone passcode. This is a one-time step per computer.

### 4 Open Apple Devices (or iTunes)

Launch the app. Your iPhone should appear in the sidebar or top toolbar. If it does not, give it a few seconds, or disconnect and reconnect the cable.

### 5 View the Storage Breakdown

Click your iPhone's name. You will see a **Summary** or **Overview** page with a colored bar at the bottom showing storage usage by type — Audio, Video, Photos, Apps, Books, Documents & Data, and Other. Hover over each color segment to see the exact GB value.

### 6 (Optional) Check via File Explorer

You can also open **File Explorer**, click **This PC**, and your iPhone will appear as a portable device. Right-click and choose **Properties** to see total capacity and free space, though this view is less detailed than the Apple Devices app.

## Troubleshooting

- **iPhone not detected:** Try a different USB port, restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (services.msc), or reinstall Apple Devices.

- **No "Trust" popup:** Unlock your iPhone, unplug and reconnect.

- **Storage bar shows nothing:** Wait 30-60 seconds for the data to load after first connection.

- **Apple Devices crashes:** Update to the latest version from Microsoft Store.
