How to Access iCloud Photos from Android

Switched from iPhone to Android and need your photos? Apple does not make it easy, but there are three reliable ways to access your iCloud Photo Library from any Android device.

Quick Answer

There is no iCloud app for Android. To access iCloud photos from Android, open Chrome on your Android phone and go to iCloud.com. Sign in with your Apple ID, tap Photos, and you can browse, view, and download your photos. For a permanent transfer, go to privacy.apple.com, sign in, and use Apple's official "Transfer a copy of your data" tool to move your entire iCloud Photo Library to Google Photos. The transfer takes 3-7 days.

Method 1: iCloud.com in a Browser

The quickest way to access your iCloud photos from Android is through the iCloud website.

1 Open iCloud.com in Chrome

On your Android phone, open Chrome (or any browser) and navigate to icloud.com. Sign in with your Apple ID and password. You may need to complete two-factor authentication — Apple sends a code to your trusted device or phone number.

2 Tap Photos

Once signed in, tap Photos. Your entire iCloud Photo Library loads in the browser. You can browse by date, album, or use search. The web interface is functional but slower than the native iOS experience.

3 Download Photos

Tap on any photo to open it, then tap the download icon (cloud with down arrow) to save it to your Android device. You can select multiple photos by tapping the Select button, choosing the photos you want, and then tapping download. iCloud.com limits batch downloads to about 1,000 photos at a time.

Limitation: iCloud.com in a mobile browser can be slow for large libraries and does not support downloading entire albums at once. For transferring your complete library, Method 2 is faster and more reliable.

Method 2: Apple's Data Transfer Tool (Best for Full Libraries)

Apple provides an official tool for transferring your iCloud data to Google. This is the best option if you want to move your entire photo library permanently.

1 Go to privacy.apple.com

Open a browser (phone or computer) and go to privacy.apple.com. Sign in with your Apple ID.

2 Request Data Transfer

Select "Request to transfer a copy of your data". Choose Google Photos as the destination. Select what you want to transfer — photos, videos, or both. Sign in to your Google account when prompted.

3 Wait for Transfer

Apple processes the transfer server-to-server. It typically takes 3-7 days depending on library size. You will receive an email when the transfer is complete. Your photos are copied — they are not deleted from iCloud.

Method 3: Download via Computer

For maximum control, download your iCloud photos to a computer first, then transfer to your Android device.

  1. On a Windows PC, install iCloud for Windows and enable iCloud Photos. All photos download to a folder on your PC.
  2. On a Mac, open Photos with iCloud Photos enabled. Select All > File > Export Unmodified Originals.
  3. Connect your Android phone to the computer via USB and copy the photo folder to the phone's DCIM or Pictures directory.

This method gives you a local backup on your computer and ensures all photos transfer at full resolution. For more on managing your iPhone storage before transferring, check our complete guide. Tip: Before transferring your library, clean it up. Use Swype Photo Cleaner on your iPhone to delete blurry shots, duplicates, and screenshots. This reduces transfer time and ensures you only bring quality photos to your new platform.

Clean Up Before You Switch

Do not bring thousands of blurry shots and duplicates to your new phone. Clean up your iPhone camera roll first with Swype Photo Cleaner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an iCloud app for Android?

Can I transfer my entire iCloud Photo Library to Google Photos?

Yes. Apple offers a free data transfer service at privacy.apple.com. Sign in, select "Request to transfer a copy of your data," and choose Google Photos as the destination. The transfer typically takes 3-7 days. This copies the photos — it does not delete them from iCloud.
