Fix iPhone Photos Not Syncing
The most common causes of iCloud Photos not syncing are full iCloud storage, no Wi-Fi connection, or Low Power Mode pausing background sync. Quick fix: go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud and check your storage. If it is full, free up space or upgrade your plan. Make sure you are on Wi-Fi, disable Low Power Mode, and plug your iPhone into power. Open the Photos app and scroll to the bottom -- if you see "Uploading X items," sync is working but not complete. If none of these help, try toggling iCloud Photos off and back on in Settings.
Fix 1: Check iCloud Storage
The number-one reason photos stop syncing is a full iCloud account. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud. The storage bar at the top shows your usage. If it shows full or nearly full, photos cannot upload. Either upgrade your iCloud plan or free up space by deleting old backups, large files, or unnecessary photos.
Fix 2: Connect to Wi-Fi
By default, iOS only syncs photos over Wi-Fi to avoid using cellular data. Go to Settings > Photos > Cellular Data and check if "Cellular Data" is enabled. Even if it is, syncing large libraries still prefers Wi-Fi. Connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network and leave the phone connected for at least 30 minutes.
Fix 3: Disable Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode pauses background activities including iCloud sync. Go to Settings > Battery and turn off Low Power Mode. If your battery is low, plug into power -- iOS resumes syncing automatically when charging.
Fix 4: Verify iCloud Photos Is Enabled
Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Photos and make sure Sync this iPhone is turned on. If it was accidentally toggled off, your photos will not sync. Toggle it on and wait for sync to start.
Fix 5: Check Your Apple ID
If you are signed into a different Apple ID than your other devices, photos will not appear on those devices. Go to Settings and tap your name at the top. Verify the Apple ID email matches what you use on your other devices. If it does not match, sign out and sign in with the correct Apple ID.
Fix 6: Restart Your iPhone
A restart clears temporary glitches that may be preventing sync. Press and hold the power button and either volume button (or just the power button on older models), then slide to power off. Wait 30 seconds, then turn the phone back on. Open Photos and check if sync resumes.
Fix 7: Toggle iCloud Photos Off and On
If sync is stuck, toggling the feature can restart the process. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Photos and turn off Sync this iPhone. Wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. When prompted, choose Download and Keep Originals if you have enough local storage. The sync will restart from scratch and may take several hours for large libraries.
Fix 8: Update iOS
Sync bugs are sometimes caused by iOS software issues that Apple fixes in updates. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install any available updates. After updating, restart your phone and check sync status.
Sync Faster with Fewer Photos
A clean camera roll syncs faster and uses less iCloud storage. Swype through your photos in minutes -- left to delete, right to keep.
