Apple One vs iCloud+ Storage Plans: Which Is Better?

If you need more iCloud storage, you have two options: standalone iCloud+ plans or Apple One bundles that include storage plus other services. Here is which one saves you more money.

Which Plan Should You Choose?

If you only need iCloud storage, standalone iCloud+ is cheaper ($0.99/month for 50 GB, $2.99 for 200 GB, $9.99 for 2 TB). If you already subscribe to Apple Music or Apple TV+, Apple One bundles save money by combining services ($19.95/month Individual includes 50 GB, $25.95 Family includes 200 GB, $37.95 Premier includes 2 TB). The break-even point: if you use 2+ Apple services beyond iCloud, Apple One is usually the better deal.

Standalone iCloud+ Plans

  • Free: 5 GB — barely enough for a device backup
  • iCloud+ 50 GB: $0.99/month — good for light users with a small photo library
  • iCloud+ 200 GB: $2.99/month — ideal for individuals with moderate photo/video usage. Can be shared with Family Sharing.
  • iCloud+ 2 TB: $9.99/month — for power users, photographers, and families with multiple devices
  • iCloud+ 6 TB: $29.99/month — for professionals with massive libraries
  • iCloud+ 12 TB: $59.99/month — maximum tier for heavy business/creative use

All iCloud+ plans include Private Relay, Hide My Email, and HomeKit Secure Video support. Learn more in our iCloud storage guide.

Apple One Bundles

  • Individual ($19.95/mo): Apple Music + Apple TV+ + Apple Arcade + iCloud+ 50 GB
  • Family ($25.95/mo): Everything in Individual + 200 GB iCloud+ for up to 6 family members
  • Premier ($37.95/mo): Everything in Family + Apple News+ + Apple Fitness+ + 2 TB iCloud+

Cost Comparison

To determine which is cheaper, add up what you currently pay for Apple services:

  • Apple Music Individual: $10.99/month
  • Apple TV+: $9.99/month
  • Apple Arcade: $6.99/month
  • iCloud+ 50 GB: $0.99/month

Subscribing to all four individually costs $28.96/month. Apple One Individual costs $19.95 — saving $9.01/month. The savings increase with higher tiers.

Which Is Right for You?

Choose Standalone iCloud+ If:

  • You only need cloud storage, not entertainment services
  • You use Spotify instead of Apple Music
  • You do not watch Apple TV+ content
  • You want the cheapest possible iCloud storage

Choose Apple One If:

  • You subscribe to Apple Music (this alone covers most of the Apple One Individual cost)
  • You watch Apple TV+ shows and movies
  • You have a family that uses multiple Apple services
  • You want Apple Arcade for gaming
Tip: Before upgrading your iCloud plan, clean your photo library with Swype Photo Cleaner. Many users discover they can drop to a cheaper storage tier after removing duplicates and unwanted photos. A 200 GB plan might be sufficient instead of 2 TB after a good cleanup. See our complete storage guide.
